This term, the Year 13 Chemistry students completed an interesting practical. Jenson Truckle, Serena Mangabhai and Charleigh Campbell tell us more:
“We made nylon “rope” in a condensation polymerisation reaction between 1,6-diaminohexane and decanedioyl dichloride. The nylon formed at the interface between the two chemicals and we used tweezers to pull it out and wrap it around the winch. We then turned the winch to continue to make more of the polymer. It was ny-lon-believable!!! The experiment was very fun!”
