Why study this course at S6C?
The Cambridge Technical Applied Science incorporates a large amount of practical work which we are well equipped to teach in modern purpose built labs with new science equipment.
The first unit, Science Fundamentals, is designed to increase knowledge across the sciences. Unit 2 is called Laboratory Techniques and focuses on practical skills and how to complete practical in an appropriate way. Both of these units are assessed through external exams.
The remaining 3 units are internally assessed and continue to develop your practical skills in areas such at preparation of chemicals, analysing purity of chemicals and microbiology.
Trips and visits opportunities
We currently attend a gene technology day at the University of Southampton. We will be developing a range of links with industry to enhance this course.
To study this course you will need a grade 6 in Core and Additional Science and a grade 5 or above in GCSE Maths.
The course forms an excellent base for employment in the science industry as a technician. It is also a good preparation for a career in the public services such as the police force or fire service. If taken alongside other Science A levels, this course provides a route to a wide range of science-related university courses.
