Course Description

This exciting Accelerated Pathway in Health & Social Care offers you the opportunity to develop the knowledge and practical skills needed for future work in the healthcare and education industries over two years. It will help you to develop essential skills for the world of Health and Social Care such as Safeguarding, Anatomy & Physiology, Infection Control, Equality & Diversity as well as numeracy, communication, teamwork and other transferable skills. In Year 1 you will begin on a CTEC Certificate in Health and Social Care, which is made up of various core, mandatory and optional units offered within the context of the unique S6C Study Programme which also includes GCSE Maths and English retake if necessary, work experience, enrichment and career education – all supported by a strong tutorial programme.

After successful completion of the introductory units you can either proceed to a Diploma in Health and Social Care or apply for an apprenticeship. This pathway enhances the skills and knowledge established in the introductory units and prepares you for Higher Education, a Higher Level Apprenticeship or the workplace.

The course is taught using a combination of scenario based activities, discussions, presentations, workshops and practical activities. Learners are encouraged to pursue independent learning activities both inside and outside the college such as visiting local stores and carrying out market research. The course is enriched by exciting activities such as external guest speakers from the healthcare and education sectors. Within the college the students have access to our study centre, allowing them to conduct independent workshops to bolster their learning. Through a diverse and ambitious teaching programme the college provides a quality of education that is compatible with the needs and demands of the 21st century.

The two year programme is designed for those students who are considering a career with a healthcare/education focus. This accelerated pathway has been developed to support those students who may not have quite reached the grades to study a full A Level programme. For all students it provides a clear pathway to higher education or employment, with the flexibility at the end of each stage in the programme to consider appropriate pathways in terms of education or employment.
