Match Report:

Another game, another win! S6C’s football team beat local rivals, Bishops Wordsworth, in a much-anticipated derby game played away at Britford Lane. Bishops started off the much better side, playing an attractive style of passing football and causing the S6C midfield to chase shadows for much of the first 20 minutes. The home team opened the scoring after a long free-kick found one of their players unmarked in the box, a well-taken header nestled in the bottom left-hand corner. This woke up the S6C team, skilful winger Adam Castle struck from long range to make level the scoring. Soon after, striker Lewis Woodhead had a goal disallowed, with the referee blowing up for an injury just before he tapped the ball in an empty net. Bishops scored a quickfire double to go into half time 3-1 up.

Half time substitutes meant an S6C debut for german exchange student Emil Stephan, who put in an industrious shift on the left-wing (which was a new position for him). S6C started a lot better this half, and managed to pull a goal back after a penalty from captain Sam Webb after Reece Tanner was fouled in the box. The boys then levelled the scoring again after centre back Archie Forden scored from an indirect free-kick. The winning goal came again from Adam Castle, who tapped in from close range. 4-3 to S6C. The final goal came from striker Lewis Woodhead, who raced in on goal and lobbed the keeper after a long ball from the defence. Man of the match went to debutant Jacob Newman, who was outstanding at both left-back and right-back. S6C now travel to Commonweal school in Swindon, before facing inter-MLP derby against Sarum Academy.

Match Report:

S6C continued their strong start to the season with a well-fought win against a Devizes team with some talented players. In a changed lineup from the previous game, Salisbury Hockey superstar Ben Green was given a chance in between the sticks  and Dylan Gilchrist and Harry Grannell were given starts after starting on the bench in the previous game.

In the first minute of the game Reece Tanner continued his record of scoring in every appearance for college with a strong finish into the bottom corner. Reece scored again in the first 10 minutes after a whipped corner from captain Sam Webb. Devizes came back into the game after some miscommunication at the back and a dominant 15 minutes from their midfield, 2-2. S6C took the lead again after a pin point free kick from Sam Webb (which can be found on the new S6C sport instagram account @sport_s6c). Devizes equalised again to take the game to 3-3 before Reece sealed his hat trick to go in at half time with a 4-3 lead.

The second half was a one sided affair with the game finishing 6-3. The goals came once again from Reece Tanner and Sam Webb. Highlights from this half included Ben Green catching every ball in a dominant display, and some outrageous tekkerz from impact sub and fan-favourite Haydyn Waters. S6C will have to wait until after christmas for their next fixtures with tough games coming up against Bishops Wordsworth and the Commonwealth School. This game also saw S6C sporting a new puma match kit sponsored by Deliveroo.

Sports Trip to University of Bath

Sport students took a trip to the University of Bath last month to complete some fitness testing. They also took part in a speed for sport session and strength and conditioning with Superleague Netball player Kim Commane. Students got a tour of the world class sport facilities at the university and an insight into studying sport at higher education.
