Match Report:
S6C’s unbeaten win streak was extended to 6 games last week in the WSFA Group Stages, after beating a well-drilled side away from home in Swindon. Commonweal started off the better side, keeping the ball neatly for the first few minutes. The game was opened up at around the 5-minute mark – when captain Sam Webb delivered a moment of individual brilliance. He picked up the ball at the halfway line before beating 5 of the oppositions players and driving home a shot into the bottom left-hand corner. 1-0 S6C. S6C then spurned many chances to put the game out of reach (some shooting practice may be in order). Just before half-time top goalscorer Reece Tanner doubled the lead with a close finish. 2-0.
In the second half Commonweal dominated both possession and chances created – with number one goalkeeper Will Gainey coming to the rescue a couple of times. Commonweal’s goal came from a spectacular long-range effort, which nestled in the top left-hand corner of the goal. 2-1. The Swindon side will rue their missed chances as they had opportunities to level the scoring late on. After what seemed like an age of injury time, the full whistle was blown. That win seemingly confirms S6C’s qualification to the semi-finals of the WSFA Cup in April. The boys are now looking forward to a game against Sarum Academy, before competing in a futsal tournament against Wiltshire College.
