Open Evenings
Our recent open evenings proved incredibly popular. We welcomed an unprecedented number of visitors to see our wonderful college and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many prospective students and parents. Thank you to all our staff and student ambassadors for making the events such a success and demonstrating the welcoming, supportive, inclusive ethos that students experience every day when they study with us. If you missed our open events and wish to take a look round, please get in touch with our admissions team at admissions@s6c.mlp.college and they will be delighted to arrange a time for you to take a tour.

The Big Draw Festival
The Big Draw Festival is an international festival of drawing and creativity in all its forms. This year celebrated 25 years, with the theme ‘Drawn Together’, highlighting how creativity unites us and how collaboration and connection are at the heart of making. At S6C, year 12 art students created drawing activities to engage their peers in drawing throughout the day. Additionally, teacher of Art, Laurence Rushby, invited staff to think of a way of including a drawing activity in their subjects, and encouraged everyone to think of drawing as observing, noticing, recording, working out, or simply doodling and wandering. Drawing can not only be fun, evoke joy and get us thinking about the world around us but also there has been extensive research on the benefit of drawing to retain information: https://www.edutopia.org/article/science-drawing-and-memory/

Art students drawing for enjoyment and wellbeing:

Thinking about drawing together and in lots of different ways, from drawing with your wrong hand to interfering with some else’s drawing to exploring new modes of mark making when we lose control:

Drawing and reimagining togetherness:

Wellbeing Day
A chance for students to complete private study, catch up on deadlines, meet with teachers, listen to external speakers, join quiet mindfulness activities around college, attend workshops and of course meet the alpacas!

Salisbury Museum
44 new history students spent the morning at Salisbury Museum nurturing a passion for the past. The session focused on jobs within the museum sector, the importance of curation and artifact handling.

Arundells
Year 13 History students visited Arundells, the home of former Prime Minister Ted Heath. They were given a guided tour, with the commentary focusing on politics and Heath’s relationships with political leaders worldwide, which directly links to our British C20 Politics unit. One of our students was even allowed to play Heath’s Steinway piano!

Art trip to Elisabeth Frink Exhibition
‘New Beginnings’, the Elisabeth Frink exhibition at the Salisbury Museum, was an amazing opportunity for the students to see Frink’s work in person.

Allies at War: The Politics of Defeating Hitler
The history boys donned a shirt and tie for a talk by historian Tim Bouverie at The Salisbury Museum. ‘Allies at War: The Politics of Defeating Hitler’ discussed the relationships between Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin during World War II, drawing on extensive archival material and unpublished diaries. The talk offered a clear perspective on the challenges of the Grand Alliance and the origins of the Cold War. Many thanks to @arundellsofficial for gifting us some tickets!

Sports Science Conference
Earlier this term, S6C played host to over 100 PE and Sports Studies students as we launched our inaugural Sports Science Conference.

Scholars from WSE, Sarum, Trafalgar, St Joseph’s and S6C were treated to eight enthralling lectures throughout the course of a truly enlightening and inspiring day.

Representatives from the UK Sports Institute discussed their roles in Strength and Conditioning and Performance Lifestyle coaching, detailing their daily work with Olympians and Paralympians. Gill Porter from Netball Scotland went on to discuss the power of sport whilst Professor Tim Rees (Bournemouth University) summarised his study of those factors which contribute towards UK Gold Medal success. Dr Judith Allgrove, also from Bournemouth, explained the physiology of exercising in extreme heat and how elite athletes seek to manage this.

In the afternoon session, Dr David Jessop from Winchester University gave a lively presentation around the study of biomechanics and its links to elite divers and wheelchair athletes in particular, whilst Richard Cheetham, MBE, closed the day providing a fascinating insight into his work around creating successful team culture with elite cycling teams.

Thank you to all our guests for making our first Sports Science Conference such a huge success!

S6C triumph in two UKMT Maths Competitions!
We are thrilled to announce the outstanding achievements of S6C students in the recent UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Senior Mathematical Challenge (SMC) and the Mathematical Competition for Girls (MCG).

Our students showcased exceptional problem-solving skills and mathematical talent, bringing home a remarkable number of awards.

Huge congratulations to the 29 students who took part in this year’s Senior Mathematical Challenge. This demanding paper tests the most capable young mathematicians in the UK, and our students rose to the occasion, earning 13 certificates in total: 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 9 Bronze

A special mention must go to Emma Ward, who achieved the highest S6C score with 83 points, earning the elite Gold Best in School certificate. Her performance has secured her a place in the Senior Kangaroo Challenge. Ash Natelson-Carter also put in a superb performance, earning a Gold certificate with 75 points and an invitation to the Senior Kangaroo Challenge. Daniil-Lart Andreiev achieved the highest score in Year 12 with 66 points, earning the Silver Best in Year Certificate.

Zak Speed earned a Silver certificate scoring 65 points.

Congratulations to all 29 students for their participation and hard work!

The Mathematical Competition for Girls is a challenging competition designed to inspire the next generation of female mathematicians. The students had to answer open ended questions that tested their problem solving and perseverance. This year, seven of our talented students participated, and they performed admirably, securing a range of certificates: 4 Distinctions (Emma Ward, Ash Natelson-Carter, Isla Adams, and Sadiqa Rahman); 1 Merit (Morgan Coombes).

Proving her mathematical prowess, Emma Ward achieved the top score in this competition as well, earning a Distinction Best in School certificate with 24 points.

Well done to all the students who represented S6C in these national competitions. Your commitment to mathematics is truly inspiring!

Sport Academies Update
S6C Bournemouth 1–2 Plymouth Argyle (Hayle)
On a bright afternoon at Sarum Academy, the S6C squad took on a formidable Plymouth Argyle side, a team who went undefeated last season and operate as a full-time football scholarship programme. It was always going to be a tough ask, but the boys rose to the challenge with spirit and heart.

The game started with Plymouth showing their quality, dominating possession and racing into a 2–0 lead early on. Many teams might have folded, but not this group. With determination and discipline, S6C dug in and defended bravely.

Just before half-time, their resilience was rewarded. A well-worked corner found Zak Speed, who struck to halve the deficit and plant a seed of doubt in the visitors’ minds. The goal shifted momentum, and from then on Plymouth knew they were in a real contest.

The second half saw S6C grow into the game, competing across the pitch and pushing for an equaliser that would have stunned their opponents. Malik was superb at centre-back, organising the defence and breaking up countless attacks. The midfield worked tirelessly, covering every blade of grass to keep the pressure on.

But the standout performance came from Eddie W in goal. Time and again he kept his side in the game with breath taking saves and a commanding presence under the high ball. His bravery and composure gave the whole team belief and kept the crowd on edge until the final whistle.

Although the match ended 2–1 to Plymouth, there was so much to be proud of. This new S6C squad showed grit, hunger, and flashes of real quality against one of the toughest opponents they will face all season. With time to settle and gel as a team, there’s every reason to believe this group can go on to achieve great things together.

S6C Rugby Academy 43-17 Ryde College (Isle Wight)
The boys can be proud of themselves today! After a slightly scratchy start, because of a less than perfect team run-through the night before, they reacted superbly, found their rhythm, and played their own style of rugby.

Ryde couldn’t cope with the physicality, with Charlie, Ben, and Brad leading the way with some massive hits. This dominance gave Ollie the perfect platform to control the game at 10, using clever kicking to dictate play and set up some excellent tries.

The first half was a real rollercoaster. Despite building a strong lead, two late lapses gifted Ryde a way back into the game, making the scoreline far too close for comfort at 24–17 going into the break.

The second half told a very different story. With greater composure and control, the boys showed their quality, crossing for more great tries and defending with relentless hunger. Leo made a huge impact in midfield, while the bench added real energy and strength to finish the game strongly.

The highlight of the day was the squad’s determination to keep a clean sheet after half-time. And, of course, Clissold will be talking about his first try for a long time to come!

It was fantastic to see the team finally get over the line for their first win of the season, made even sweeter by coming against a private school. The passion, fight, and squad depth on display made this a brilliant all-round performance. We go again in a couple of weeks time.

S6C Rugby Academy 52-24 Embley
S6C march into Round 4 after dominant display! The message remains the same every week. So proud of the boys, with 100% commitment, once again this group lived up to their promise in emphatic style. S6C Rugby Academy delivered a statement performance, overcoming a slow start to run out convincing 52-24 winners over Embley and book their place in Round 4.

Bar a scratchy opening 20 minutes, S6C shifted gears and produced some sublime attacking rugby. The final 10 minutes of the first half saw the floodgates open, as the boys found their rhythm and blew Embley away with pace, precision, and power. It was a joy to watch.

What stood out most was the strength and depth of the squad. Several players made their debuts for the 1st XV, stepping up brilliantly and proving the growing quality across the Academy. Every player on the field did themselves proud — the team culture is thriving, and it shows in the performance.

Up front, the forward pack laid a relentless platform. Charlie, Kyle, Seb, and Ben were outstanding, bringing huge physicality and intensity on both sides of the ball. They set the tone, and the backs did the rest.

Ollie marshalled the game with control and confidence at 10, while Leo and Broyd linked well in midfield, creating space and taking opportunities. Brown was superb at the back, organising the defence and launching counter-attacks with real intent.

The bench brought fresh legs and fresh energy, with every substitute making a positive impact – exactly what’s needed in knockout rugby.

But the standout on the day was Arthur, who delivered a brilliant, all-action performance to earn Man of the Match. His try was equal parts brutal and brilliant, capped by an iconic celebration and – just for good measure – a sweetly struck conversion. A proper moment.

Try scorers: Brown x2, Leo, Arthur, Seb, Kyle, Ben, Ollie
Conversions: Ollie x7, Arthur x1

Boys — make sure you are proud of your performance. You’re improving every week, the belief is real, and the direction is clear. This team is building something special.

S6C Rugby Academy 35-27 Reading Blue Coats
Another win. That is 4 out of 5. A scrappy afternoon with plenty of lessons learned. A big positive was seeing more of the group get valuable game time.

Due to a number of changes, our flow in the first half wasn’t quite there. There were spells of good rugby, but too often poor decision-making or a forced offload led to turnovers. Defensively, we were also uncharacteristically flat — lacking our usual aggression and structure.

At half-time, the score was 14–10, and the game was very much in the balance. The second half ebbed and flowed, and fair play to RBC – their line speed and work at the breakdown caused us real problems.
With the score locked at 28–27 and five minutes to play, it could have gone either way. What pleased me most was our spirit and determination to get over the line. We did that in style, with Broyd scoring his first try for the college after some excellent link-up play.

There were some outstanding individual performances but one player who really caught the eye was Vuki, who delivered an all-action display and fully deserved his MOTM award. We’ll need to raise our performance levels ahead of Bryanston next week. It’s a great opportunity, and one I’m very excited about. You can do it, lads! Big week of training coming up – competition for places is going to be fierce!
