19 September 2025 We have had a fantastic start to the term and the atmosphere at the college is really positive, with our new students settling in well and year 13 showing a maturity towards learning which is hugely encouraging. Clubs and societies began last week and with such an eclectic mix of activities, there is something for everyone, from artistic pursuits, sports, gaming and yoga to debating, reading, volunteering and Gold Duke of Edinburgh, with a little activism and crocheting thrown in. All very worthy activities to help improve skills, forge new friendships and boost applications for your next steps.
At S6C, our approach to teaching offers a brilliant stepping stone to the independence of higher education, employment or an apprenticeship. Students attend lessons and are then expected to undertake 4.5 hours of independent study per subject, in order to support their learning and retain and extend the knowledge and skills taught in college. If you feel you (or your child) is not meeting this requirement, please feel free to contact Head of College Ben Hillier at bhillier@s6c.mlp.college and we can help you make the changes needed to get the most out of your college experience.
Attendance Well done to everyone who has 100% attendance so far, this is really impressive and we hope it continues! If your attendance needs to improve, make sure you are in college every day and on time, ready to learn and if you need to talk to someone, we have staff who are here to support you.

Sport Academies Match Report MLP Rugby Academy v Bishop Wordsworth’s It was a proud afternoon of rugby with both the 1st XV and 2nd XV putting in spirited performances in their first outings of the season.
2nd XV The 2nd XV, a side brought together at short notice, produced a superb display full of fight, intensity and togetherness. Despite being a little scratchy in places, they created plenty of chances and were unfortunate not to come away with a win. What stood out most was the way the players gelled over the course of the match, showing resilience and commitment throughout the full 40 minutes.
1st XV The 1st XV began brightly, matching BWS in the opening exchanges. However, after conceding the first score, heads dropped and the opposition took control of the first quarter. A rallying call at the break sparked an impressive response.
In the final quarter the team raised their energy, tempo and physicality, playing with greater belief and purpose. A flowing passage of play was capped by a clever kick from Norman, finished off by captain Botwright. That score lifted the side, who then pressed hard inside the BWS 22. A brilliant break from Broyd, followed by an outstanding offload to Ratuniata, almost produced a second try, only for a desperate last-ditch tackle and turnover to end the contest at 19–7.
While the result left a sense of “what might have been,” the strong finish and attacking intent provided plenty of encouragement for the season ahead.
Looking Ahead As a first competitive run-out, there was much to be proud of, and both teams can take confidence into training this week. With areas to fine-tune and lessons learned, attention now turns to preparations for the KES Cup.
Special thanks go to Jason Yarwood for his support, Josie for first aid duties, and Old Boys Ben C-B, Louis, and Rob for their coaching input and visible passion for the badge.
Thank you, James Kaminski (Rugby Coach)

This week and next week, trials are taking place for our sports academies. Participants are encouraged to maintain high levels of personal development and professional standards and a place on the team is only guaranteed when a student’s academic work is up to date. We are looking forward to seeing whether our teams can improve on the impressive results achieved by our alumni.
And finally, our staff have just completed the S6C Summer Reading Challenge, championed by Emma McAndrew, which highlights the importance of reading for pleasure for both educational purposes as well as personal development. Here are some of their recommendations…

16 July 2025 And just like that, another academic year is over and it is time to reflect on everything that we have achieved, how much we have learned and the obstacles that we have overcome.
At S6C, we are incredibly proud of the level of support we give to every single student, enabling each student to identify and conquer all barriers to learning.
At S6C, our expert teaching staff ensure that every student progresses and achieves the outcome they need for their next steps.
At S6C, gaps in learning are identified and addressed early and every student is encouraged to develop a love of learning and to study independently, skills which are hugely useful in later life.
At S6C, students can grow and become the very best versions of themselves that they can be and we are all incredibly proud of their achievements this year.
The S6C community works together to bring a wealth of opportunities to our students, in the classroom and beyond. There are staff working behind the scenes every day, keeping our students safe, looking after their mental health and wellbeing, providing delicious meals, organising exams and assessments, making sure student data is updated and secured, ensuring our site is maintained and cleaned, greeting visitors and seeking to maintain the warm, friendly, welcoming atmosphere that has been established over the past 10 years. Every activity shows how dedicated our staff are and how, at S6C, we strive to raise standards and achieve exceptional outcomes. Thank you to everyone for making S6C such a special place and wishing everyone a happy and safe summer break – see you in September!
If you got an E or a U grade in one or more of your A-Level end of year 12 mocks, you will be doing a resit paper on Monday 01 September. Please see the attached timetable with the information on the title of your paper (i.e. the topics) and the length. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start time of your exam (either 9am or 1pm). If you are unsure about anything, please message Kirsty White or speak to your subject teacher.
Beyond the Classroom Recent trips have seen students travel all the way to the Isles of Scilly and slightly more locally to the New Forest Wildlife Park, Marwell Zoo, Salisbury Cathedral to hear Sir John Major speak, Dartmoor for the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and Stratford Bridge.
Students who were unable to secure a work experience placement spent the day with WFM Software Solutions, learning how to work in teams to devise a new product, in this case an app, developing a robust business strategy, marketing plan and presenting their ideas.

This is always a very busy time in the college calendar and the past few weeks have been filled with a huge array of activities:
Final exams and mock exams have been approached by our students with incredible maturity and a calm sense of purpose;
This year’s focus for Mental Health Awareness Week was ‘community’ and our mental health lead, Liz Stavely, highlighted the power that being in a supportive community can have on a person’s wellbeing by devising a quiz and ‘Post-it Positivity’ day, when everyone jotted down their thoughts about what makes S6C special to them. It was such an uplifting way to visually represent the tide of good feeling that S6C generates amongst staff and students and every person who contributed to the wall received a miniature lucky duck! Thank you to everyone who took part and we hope that you were able to take something useful from the week’s activities;
We have welcomed prefects from Trafalgar and WSE for training days, where they took part in workshops to learn what makes a good leader and how to have difficult conversations. They also took part in an ‘escape room’ team building exercise. We loved welcoming our younger members of the MLP community to S6C. We hope they enjoyed their day with us and we wish them all the best for year 11;
S6C hosted the final MLP Pupil Parliament of the year and it was heartening to see how pupils from every MLP school were able to come together and work collaboratively to discuss issues that are important to them and agree ways forward;
S6C has been celebrating Pride Month and pastoral lead Rebecca Anderson has been ensuring that the college continues to remain an inclusive community, with a zero tolerance approach to any kind of discrimination;
The Summer Basketball League has kept us entertained with both thrills and spills, the staff team performing surprisingly well against their more youthful opponents;
And finally thank you to Laurence Rushby, Teacher of Art, for organising an art room open day so that our art students could show their friends and families their final pieces of work and portfolios. We can’t share any images just yet but we can tell you that their work is exceptional and our art students should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved. Going forward, we hope to display more of our student’s work around the college – watch this space!
But if you think we are going to start winding down for the summer holidays, think again! We have art, photography and animation mocks this week and forthcoming events include a year 12 work experience day on Tuesday 24 June for those students who were unable to secure a placement, our Taster Day on Thursday 26 June when we welcome our year 11 applicants for the day and Unlock Year 13 Day on Tuesday 08 July, when we’ll be enrolling our year 12 students into year 13. We are also embarking on a very exciting collaboration with SLAM Creative Studios who are partnering with our Creative Department to provide real-world creative experiences for our students. Through this partnership, SLAM’s team will set real-world project briefs aligned with our creative courses, challenging our students to apply their design and media skills in practice. Providing mentoring, workshops and work experience, SLAM will give our students practical insights into careers in branding, design and digital media and connect them with industry professionals and business owners through guest talks and networking events, broadening their perspective on creative careers. We cannot wait to get started!
Match Report: S6C Bournemouth Football Academy vs. Plymouth Argyle Final Score: Plymouth PD 1 – 6 S6C Bournemouth Academy After a long road trip, S6C Bournemouth Academy arrived in Plymouth full of confidence and ready to make a statement — and they did just that with an emphatic 6–1 win that keeps them firmly in the title race. The Cherries started brightly, immediately finding their rhythm. A well-worked move saw Aaron deliver a pinpoint cross into the box, which Xavier coolly tucked away to open the scoring. Plymouth, however, responded quickly with a surprise equaliser, momentarily unsettling the visitors. But S6C Bournemouth Academy regained control, and a moment of brilliance from Bowden — a cheeky nutmeg followed by a smart through ball — allowed Max to slot home calmly and restore the lead before the break. Coming out strong in the second half, the cohesion of the S6C Bournemouth Academy midfield and attacking line was on full display. Aaron and Max combined beautifully for S6C Bournemouth Academy’s third, with Aaron finishing decisively. Moments later, Max again beat his man down the flank and delivered a superb cross to the far post, where Bowden was waiting to tap in S6C Bournemouth Academy’s fourth. The attacking onslaught didn’t stop there. As the game wore on, Max turned provider once more, finding Aaron with a precise ball for him to complete his hat-trick and seal an outstanding team performance. Goal scorers: Xavier/Max/Aaron (3)/Bowden Assists: Max (4)/Bowden/Aaron Man of the Match: Bowden – A composed and commanding presence in the middle of the park, Bowden was instrumental in dictating the tempo. With a goal, an assist, and a tireless performance throughout, he was key to S6C Bournemouth Academy dominance on the day. With this vital win, S6C Bournemouth Academy edge ever closer to a potential title triumph.
Liz Stavely – Mental Health Lead As part of a CPD Wellbeing initiative, a group of teaching staff are looking to create an immersive environment to aid with self regulation for some of our students. In order to proceed with the project, we are in need of a short throw projector that can be linked to a laptop or PC, similar to the type used for conference rooms/classrooms. We wondered if any of our parents are able to help with this? Does your workplace have any redundant projectors? If you think you can help, please email sbarrington@s6c.mlp.college

University and Apprenticeships – Any student needing to do an interview for apprenticeship, employment or university can come and see Rebecca to arrange some guidance and practice; – Any student needing advice on volunteering, work experience, or wider engagement, to prepare for strong applications, should talk to their teachers, tutor or Rebecca as soon as they know what area they may be interested in; – We offer a full support service for those applying for apprenticeships, but it has to be responsive to the job market, so there are no set dates for the different stages. This means that students need to show a high level of initiative and independence, but we are here to help and we expect to be involved – we can help search, check applications, and prepare for interviews. 09 May 2025 Last night, our Creative Faculty organised a triumphant evening, showcasing the work of our year 13 Creative Media students. There was such a strong sense of community amongst all who attended, with the students demonstrating the warm and supportive spirit that has been so evident during their two years with us. It was heartening to see how they all wanted the best for each other and the college is incredibly proud to have been a part of such a positive event and to have worked with this wonderful cohort. Well done to everyone whose work we saw and to those who have helped to shape and nurture these young people during their time with us.

Match Report: S6C Bournemouth Football Academy vs. Plymouth Argyle In a commanding performance, S6C Bournemouth Football Academy secured a 4–1 victory over Plymouth Argyle, showcasing their dominance from the outset.
The match started with high intensity. Max Elshaw opened the scoring, capitalising on a precise cut-back from Aaron, placing the ball into an unguarded net. Shortly thereafter, Harry Merritt doubled the lead. Max Elshaw orchestrated the play, delivering a perfectly weighted ball to Harry, who controlled it effortlessly and dispatched it into the net with his weaker foot. Plymouth Argyle managed to pull one back late in the half through a well-executed free-kick, narrowing the deficit to 2–1.
In the second half S6C were aware that the next goal would be pivotal, the Bournemouth lads faced a period of pressure as Plymouth sought to capitalise on their momentum. However, the team regained composure and extended their lead when Harry Merritt’s relentless pursuit of the ball led to a penalty, which Aaron converted confidently. In the closing stages, Bournemouth exploited a counter-attack opportunity, with Olly Bowden threading a pass to Zach, who marked a great all round performance with a clinical finish with the outside of his boot, making it 4–1.
The match finished with Bournemouth asserting their superiority, leaving a lasting impression and bolstering their aspirations for league success.
Goals: 1–0: Max Elshaw (Assist: Aaron) 2–0: Harry Merritt (Assist: Max Elshaw) 2–1: Plymouth Argyle 3–1: Aaron (Assist: Harry Merritt) 4–1: Zach (Assist: Olly Bowden)
Man of the Match: Travis Budgell This victory underscores Bournemouth’s potential and gives us a small chance to win the league!

Rebecca Anderson – Pastoral Lead Diversity and Inclusivity – If students would like us to mark a faith celebration which is important to them, or a national day which has significance, or need time off for a faith celebration, then please let me know. – The Reflection Room is open to all needing a quiet space in college for a short break. It has low lighting options, objects and books from different faith traditions, meditation hints, colouring, lego, and nature books, and is a space for those of all faiths and none. S6C/WSE Football Tour 04 April 2025: Another really great day today. It was the last training session where the lads were given a certificate for their progress whilst on tour. We then went to the magnificent San Siro stadium for a tour. Watched and supported the year 10s and 11s play. Followed by a lovely meal and walk for an Italian ice cream.
05 April 2025: Wow what a busy day. We were up at 6am and back at midnight. We created some amazing memories.
A full day at Gaardaland Theme park, followed by watching AC Milan at the San Siro. What a day!
06 April 2025: We have landed and are now on the coach to Salisbury. The students have been incredible throughout the five days.
Charlie Sladen was given ‘student of the tour’ for his politeness, manners and performance during training, all whilst managing his injury. His leadership on and off the pitch was exemplary. A real role model for the younger students on tour.
We finished the tour with a friendly football tournament.
What a tour. This is my eighth Football tour and this was the best……mostly down to the students.
Adam Jones Director of Sport
