S6C Update

04 October 2024
The last two weeks have gone by in a flash. Year 12 students have had their first assessment week and reports are now available on the Parent Portal (please see below for more information). Photography students visited Lacock Abbey and Year 12 Art students spent the day at The New Art Centre, Roche Court Sculpture Park (more below). We all enjoyed cakes, biscuits, pastries and more at our Macmillan Coffee Morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Year 13 Biology students had to postpone their field trip to Kimmeridge by one day due to high winds and rain but this proved to be the right decision, since the students enjoyed wonderful warm sunny weather on Tuesday. Our rugby team triumphed once again (match report below) and finally, thank you to Safeguarding Link Governor Martin Pike for visiting us this week and meeting with our Safeguarding Lead Craig Chambers and touring the college. We are hugely grateful for the support given by our Governors and their unwavering commitment to the college is much appreciated.

Year 12 Art students spent the day at The New Arts Centre to discover more about the Articulation Prize, a public speaking workshop on art: Discovery Days | Articulation Prize | National Gallery, London

Students visited the sculpture park and had a surprise opportunity to interview famous artist Bill Woodrow in person. They are now rehearsing for their public speaking and are writing a full article for the update next week.

2024 S6C Parent and Guardian Survey
This week parents were sent an email with a link to the 2024 S6C Parent and Guardian Survey. We gathered parent and guardian feedback at this time last year and found it immensely useful and we hope that you will be able to find some time to complete this year’s survey.

Please click on the link and your responses will be communicated directly to QDP. It would be greatly appreciated if you could return your online responses to QDP by Friday 18 October and we have been asked to remind all respondents to be honest but respectful. Please do not name individuals in the text boxes and be considerate about the language you use. Thank you for your time and support.

HUGE STATEMENT WIN!

After an interesting first 10 minutes we calmed down and began to play our brand of rugby. The prolific try scoring machine that is Jack got us underway with a textbook tap-and-go 5m out. When we got our shape and moved the ball they couldn’t touch us and this was captured by a brilliant team try finished off by captain Mica who again led from the front. There were many standout performances; Mala so good to have you back – strong both sides of the ball; Junior a wrecking ball; however, the stand out performer was Ellis – an unreal overall performance, did the unseen work, tackled everything and was brilliant at the breakdown.

Well done to all our debutantes – great to have you all on board!

Still a lot more to come from us and we were only in second/third gear today. Poole Grammar next week is a BIG game in our first Continental Cup match, and one we will relish. Numbers have been awesome at training (26 last week), and we will be prepared to ensure we put in a complete 70 minutes performance. Well done to the boys and JK, we build and go again. Bring on Poole!!!

Thank you to all the teachers who continue to support the lads, allowing them to follow their passion to represent the college on the field.
